A Legacy of Service

The South Adams County Fire Department first began operations on February 9th, 1942 as an outgrowth of a civil defense group from World War II. Volunteer firefighters proudly served the community as the primary emergency responders until February of 2014 when the South Adams County Fire Department hired 14 full-time firefighters to serve the community and has since grown to best serve the community.

In March of 2017 the firefighters of the South Adams County Fire Department unionized under the International Association of Firefighters as a commitment to enhance the safety, benefits, and working conditions of your firefighters as the South Adams County Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 5124.
